Last week we featured an interview with Kelly and Ben about their upcoming Hardy Farm wedding! We were so excited to see the invitation suite they had made that we reached out to the designer, Meagan Harrington Diaz, to get to know her a bit more!
Tell us a little bit about your business:
From my studio, I create and print custom watercolor wedding stationery for couples. I am based in Tucson, Arizona, but work with couples all over the world.
What makes you unique?
I start with a couple’s story: how they met, the proposal, passions they share, and I turn those details into paintings. I then take the paintings and create their wedding suite~ invitations, custom maps, place cards, menus, etc.
How did you get started?
I have always been an artist, but specifically, with weddings, I started only a few years ago. I was working on a relative’s Save the Dates when a client approached me after noticing my painting,”Signposts in Ireland” in my other watercolor shop on Etsy, DustyShamrockStudio.etsy.com. We worked together to create custom save the dates for her Ireland wedding and the rest is history
What is your favorite piece to create for weddings?
Custom Maps would have to be my favorite. I have the ability to add the most illustration out of any of the pieces- with countryside, trees, flowers, animals, ceremony and reception details.
Tell us about the customization process for Kelly & Ben’s wedding suite!
Kelly and Ben are the sweetest couple! Kelly came to me requesting an original wedding suite that was “whimsical with some ‘travel’ touches (hot air balloon centerpieces, vintage maps, etc).” I thought this sounded simply wonderful. In keeping their wedding colors in mind (pink, grey, and a forest green) we created a cohesive suite that shared elements, but stood apart from one another as well. The liners, for instance are an assortment of vintage hot-air balloons, of which you can also find on the map and invite. The custom map has a vintage old-world style border with forest animals. I am currently working on custom table cards that feature places that are important to Kelly and Ben, and include elements of nature- a theme we carried throughout this suite. The backdrop for one card, for example, is their high school building framed by lilac flowers.
