There are event caterers and then there are just food experience specialists! Dandelion Catering is one of those caterers who just make magic with each event they cater. Their food is delicious, beautiful, local, and they are always true professionals.
Dandelion catering was started in 2009 by Christine and Christian Hayes. You may have seen Christian competing and winning on Chopped. You may also know this talented pair from their amazingly well reviewed restaurant, The Garrison, in Yarmouth.
We got a chance to interview Amy Andrew, the Operations Manager, of Dandelion Catering to learn more about this popular and growing business.
Can you tell us more about how Dandelion Catering got started and about its growth in the past few years?
Christine and Christian started out working as a team and have grown largely thanks to word of mouth recommendations from past clients and vendor friends. Dandelion now has 7 year round full time employees, plus a staff of 100+ during wedding season. In our first seasons we were catering a handful of weddings each year, and now are thrilled to have been a part of thousands of events; brunches, lunches, dinner parties, fundraisers, showers, and of course weddings.
What has been one of your favorite events you have gotten to be a part of?
There are so many, it’s hard to choose! This past season we got to be a part of a four-day event, starting with an island picnic lunch and ending with a farewell brunch. It’s so nice to be a part of multi-day events and to be able to contribute to a celebration like that.
Can you tell us about an event at Hardy Farm that you really loved?
Emma & Conor’s wedding last summer was one of our favorites! The planning team from A Family Affair always does such wonderful things with their designs, and combined with the natural beauty of the venue the whole evening was really spectacularly beautiful.
What is something couples just love about working with you?
I think we really strive to create a custom menu that fits the couple’s vision for their day. While we have a ton of great dishes to choose from on our menu, we are also always so excited to incorporate an old favorite family recipe, or to work hand in hand with the bride and groom to come up with a dish that is representative of the couple and their partnership in some way. We also highlight local Maine ingredients in all of our menus and are so happy to have such great local resources to work with for produce, meats, seafood, etc.
